I found this Nero del Nago wine at Whole Foods last week, it comes in white and red. Whole Foods had a sign that said it was ~exclusive~. I was attracted to it because it was like, $5.49.
This will not be a snobby wine review. I don’t know about noses, and flavors and all of that. I care about a) taste b) price c) likelihood of hangover/wine headache d) classiness if I brought it to a party.
Like “oh it has a very cherry nose and it seemed to have a hint of sandalwood”. No. If I show up with this will I look cheap and is it going to give everyone a headache?
Moving on.
This wine is good. I prefer reds to whites. I liked both. It did not give me a headache. It is obscure enough that no one needs to know it cost $5. I wouldn’t say it’s great but it’s good. It did not have a very bold taste for the red but it was decent.
There is one flaw with this wine, which is that it has a twist off top and it is like IMPOSSIBLE to open. Not even my manly husband could do it. Sometimes I have had luck opening it by using a knife to cut all of the perforations and then using rubber dish gloves to get a good grip and use all my might to twist the damn top off. Sometimes I have had luck with the dish gloves and brute force. Each time it has taken like 3 minutes to open.
So, I give this wine a thumbs up for taste, 2 thumbs down for ease of access and an A+ for price (and for ~exclusivity~). Hey wait, maybe that’s what they meant…it’s exclusive because you can’t open the damn thing. Hmmmm….
