Sam and Keila were in town from Denver last week for Thanksgiving, and it was great to see them.
On Friday, Brittani, Keila and I watched “Amelie” for one of Keila’s classes — she had to write about the use of color in a film, book, etc., and her selection proved to be ideal. As Brittani pointed out, one of the DVD extras explicitly described how color was manipulated in the movie during post-production, mostly the saturation of red and green. Though I’d seen the film numerous times before and never noticed, the two colors stood out starkly this time around.

We picked up some wine and ice cream before starting the movie. Alex and I had made his famous peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies for Tuesday’s work potluck; Brittani and I took the last remaining cookie chunks, crushed them in a bag and then sprinkled the pieces on our ice cream.
Delicious
Keila and Brittani
We spent a good portion of the movie bullshitting on what the various colors meant — “See how her sheets and pillows and bedroom is all red? That stands for her unfulfilled passion for Nino.” “Yeah, and she always wears red because she brings zest for life wherever she goes.” Etc.
Watching “Amelie” made me miss speaking and studying French. And Paris. Le sigh.
The next day after work, Brittani, Keila and I went to Sam’s parents’ house. After they configured their new Xbox we went to the Boulevard for some late-night, deliciously cheap Mexican from a roadside stand. We met up there with some of Sam’s friends, including a very intoxicated young man (more on him later). The food was just what I needed, though it made me miss speaking and studying Spanish.
We all headed back to Sam’s and put in “Star Trek” — the movie, not the TV show — which I had never seen.
And even that night I didn’t actually see it — everyone was engaged in conversation, and understandably so. Plus, Intoxicated Guy’s attempts at flirting with Brittani were too amusing to ignore.
Brittani, the object of Drunk Guy's sweet if unintelligible affection, kept her followers informed of his ramblings. (Click to view the twitpic)
Of course, after I got home around 3:30, I promptly turned on my laptop and watched the movie online.
Then again a few days later.
I already told Kyle that we’re working our way through the Star Trek universe when he gets home. I think it’s only appropriate, seeing as two of my favorite cousins were (are still?) avid Trekkies.

It was great to see Keila and Sam — I wish I’d gotten to know them better this summer, before they moved. It’s always fun when they’re around. Hopefully we can all get together again at New Year’s.
