Hey, there!!! Hope you’re have a wonderful day before Valentines day!
I know a lot of people are celebrating V-Day today and that’s exactly what the husband and I did, too!
We didn’t really plan on it, but that’s how it turned out.
I wanted to go to this event downtown where they were supposed to be having a dessert bar plus a regular cash bar. Once we got there, though, it was a total bust. Lame. It could have been so much better. I don’t know where the city hires their event planners, but they should probably keep looking.
Anyway, we went to a local place called Jillian’s (kind’ve like Dave and Busters) and played some arcade games including some skee ball. it was a fun way to kill some time.
Next, we walked to the mall. We took a walk past the water on the way.
Doesn’t he look thrilled!?
We even saw a mermaid! (The “mascot” of Norfolk.)
We were trying to decide what to eat for dinner, and then we saw an announcement outside the mall touting the opening of a new cupcake boutique. So…we headed into the mall to find this mythical place. It turned out to just be a kiosk. called the Carolina Cupcakery.
Josh got a Reese’s cupcake.
I tried the sampler.
I actually saved mine for after dinner. In hindsight, I wish I’d gotten a full size one because I always prefer the cake part over the frosting.
After getting our cupcakes, we left the mall to get dinner, which ended up being at my favorite restaurant, Bodega.
This is a tapas restaurant, meaning you’re supposed to order many small plates and share.
Josh ordered the butternut squash soup.
It was delicious! Very sweet. He had been craving this and it really his the spot.
I ordered the she-crab soup. My fave!
if you’ve never had she-crab soup, you should definitely try it next time you’re in the Chesapeake Bay area where it’s common.
Josh also had the cheese tortellini with mushrooms and peas.
I ordered the cheese fondue which was made with Gouda and Havarti.
SO delicious! Not thinking this much bread would come with the cheese, I also ordered the country bread.
It came with garlic parmesan butter and olive tampenade (crushed olives).
To drink, I tried the white wine flight. $10 for a tasting of three different wines.
Loved our “Valentine’s Day” dinner! Have a wonderful Saturday!
