My Motto: Anything is better if you make it yourself. Or, if your boyfriend makes it himself and you lend crucial emotional support by drinking a great glass of wine and listening to good music.
I’m just coming down from the wonderful high of an amazing week of writing. Last Wednesday, I really found my stride. I rearranged the opening scenes of my new book, Imaginary, finally finding a way to get the main characters into the action of the story quicker. The pacing is better and I’m really excited to see how it turns out.
I also just finished The Thing About Forever, by master YA writer Sara Dessen. I picked up the book because of a recommendation an agent friend gave me and all I can say is “wow”. Dessen has obviously found her voice and the book was impressive. I was very pleasantly surprised.
And, because I am an obsessive children’s book author myself, I immediately went to her author website and read everything she wrote. She has some great advice for new authors, including a little tidbit that I took to heart personally, which says that every writer–no matter how busy–should dedicate two hours a day to writing.
I can do that. You can do that, too. Anyone can dedicate two hours. You can find her website here. If you’re an aspiring writer, I encourage you to check out her site and learn from her good advice.
As for me, I wrote for three hours tonight and spent the rest of the evening helping boyfriend make homemade pasta, listening to Ingrid Michaelson, and drinking fresh white wine. Heaven.
