Anniversary dinner

I have been going to the Chart House in Philadelphia since 1998.  My then blind date ( who is now my husband) took me there on our first date.  I was duly impressed enough to marry him(no, this was not the only reason, but it certainly helped).

I’m an old fashioned girl-I like to be wined and dined.  The first night we went it was freezing cold.  We arrived and our car was valet parked.  My date escorted me inside.  The first thing I noticed was the fountain as you come in.  Charming.

They checked our coats and led us to a booth.  The view of the Delaware river is not the best in the world, but the bridge was all lit up.  My date had arranged for roses to be on the table-another big plus.  The Chart House will help you with special occasions.  We ended up having our wedding dinner there, but I am getting ahead of myself.

We were both nervous as you can be on a blind date-we already knew by that time that we were going to be together.  But again, I am getting ahead of myself.

We both ordered the Lobster Bisque-it was fabulous.  Then I ordered a whole maine lobster, and they crack it for you tableside.  The only way to eat lobster.  My date had steak, and he said it was also fabulous.

The dinner was excellent.  If you have never been to a Chart House (they are a chain), there are two things you should know.  First, dinner will take at least two hours.  I happen to like the pace.  Some people don’t.  Second, it will cost a bundle.  Dinner with wine averages $200.00 for two people.  I have always felt a good meal is worth paying for.  We only go there for special occasions.

We go every year for our anniversary.  I have been very disappointed lately with dining out, so I decided to read some reviews, and they were not pretty.  Seems they changed management, which is never a good sign.  Also, the economy can wreak havoc on good dining.

I decided to go anyway.  Old traditions die hard.  I will be following up here as well.

A word to the wise-Trip Advisor is my bible.  I suggest reading up on any hotel or restaurant you intend to spend serious money at.

Also, if you go to the Chart House, order the chocolate lava cake-it’s to die for!
